Sandeep Shirgill awarded Leverhulme Early Career fellowship

We are delighted to congratulate BARRIER researcher Sandeep Shirgill, who has been awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Birmingham.
The three-year fellowship will support Sandeep in establishing an independent research programme focused on understanding interactions between antimicrobials used in combination. Using mathematical modelling alongside data-driven approaches, the research will investigate why combinations of antimicrobials can act synergistically or antagonistically and how these interactions can be predicted.
The fellowship will build on Sandeep’s interdisciplinary expertise in mathematical modelling and data science and complement her current research within BARRIER on antimicrobial accumulation and resistance. She hopes that insights and approaches developed through the fellowship will contribute to the wider aims of BARRIER, while knowledge gained through BARRIER will help inform the development of her independent research programme.
Sandeep will begin her Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship in May 2027.
